Having only spent 12 hours (ish) in Almaty, I can’t say much about Kazakhstan. Almaty is a very pleasant town, and has a lot of bars and cafes, making it ideal for European tourists who may have been missing a beer after visiting other parts of Central Asia.
I was most happy to get over my craving of iced coffee.
There are also many hiking possibilities in the mountains nearby, which I will have to ask more about from the travelling companions I separated from.
